6 Syndromes with Surprising Psychotherapy Solutions:

We all know that our body and mind are somehow linked; so, the well-being of one affects the health of the other as well. Still, some diseases are solely related to our body, and some are related to our mind.

But, some diseases which you might consider as physical illness are actually related to your mind. Yes, we have found such six syndromes for which most of the people go to the doctor to take medications, but actually, these can be sorted only through psychotherapy.

Surprising Psychotherapy Solutions

Well, if you don’t believe us, then read about them by yourself. And next time, before visiting your regular doctor for these syndromes, book an appointment with an online psychologist. Here is the list of these syndromes:

1.     Headaches:

Most of us take pain killers when we feel any type of ache in our head. If the pain is regular, then we usually visit a physician to get medicines for it. But, according to the research, psychotherapy can prevent most of the headaches.

Yes, because most of the people experience a headache due to stress, or tension and these are related to our mind. It means that you can get rid of headaches by taking the help of a psychologist in alleviating your stress.

Mindfulness-based therapy can ease your headache, and this has been proved by a study. The researchers divided the participants into two groups. One group didn’t receive any therapy and continued taking medications for headaches, while the members of the other group were given mindfulness-based therapy for three weeks.

After the experiment, the researchers found out that the people of the therapy group started to get fewer headaches as compared to the other group.

2.     Insomnia:

Insomnia is difficulty in sleeping. Insomniacs find it difficult to fall asleep and staying in a deep sleep for long time periods. These people usually get small broken naps due to which they always feel tired.

People suffering from insomnia usually go to the doctor and take sedatives to sleep. But, medication is not the right solution to this problem because these people couldn’t fall asleep if they will miss their sedatives for a day.

According to research, cognitive behavioral therapy is really helpful in curing insomnia. To prove this, an experiment was performed in which some insomniacs were given sedatives, some were given CBT therapy, and some were given both.

The results have shown that insomniacs getting CBT therapy slept more soundly and faster than the people getting medicines. Plus, those who were getting medicines and therapy both were no different from those who were only getting the therapy.

3.     Infertility:

Usually, the first solution of infertility in women is fertility drugs given by the doctors. 50% of the women become pregnant with the help of these drugs, but the remaining 50% need some other solution to tackle this problem.

Doctors suggest them injectable hormones, but these women can also take the help of psychotherapy for becoming pregnant. Yes, because stress plays an important role in becoming pregnant; which can be controlled with psychotherapy only.

A review done in 2005 found out that 45% of women who had taken psychotherapy sessions became pregnant without any difficulty. On the other hand, only 14% of women become pregnant from the group who hasn’t received any psychotherapy.

4.     Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS):

IBS is a gastrointestinal disorder with symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating and constipation. To cure this syndrome, most people take medications and also change their diet and lifestyle.

According to experts, 50% to 90% of people suffering from IBS usually have psychological problems like depression, stress, anxiety or social phobia. In this regard, a trial on 48 people was done, and its data was published in “Journal of Psychosomatic Research” in December 2014.

In this study, the psychologists provided therapy sessions to the patients of IBS. The results of the study have shown that IBS symptoms improved when the psychological problem of the patient was controlled.

The psychologists have helped these patients by incorporating coping strategies and self-monitoring in their life, provided them with the right feedback and empathetic support.

5.     Fibromyalgia:

Fibromyalgia is a problem in which the person feels intense pain in joints and muscles along with fatigue and depression. People going through this syndrome are given medications and antidepressants by the doctor.

The medications of this disease also have some side effects. However, researchers have claimed that cognitive behavioral therapy can cure this condition in a better manner. A trial was done in 2011 to prove the effectiveness of this claim.

The researchers found out that CBT therapy reduced pain just like the medications do in fibromyalgia. It also enhanced the quality of life of these patients. So, the therapy is effective in controlling the condition, and at least, it won’t have any side effects like the medications available to treat this condition.

6.     Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD):

Any issues related to sexual desire or arousal, sex-related pain and orgasm are counted under FSD syndrome. The problems like low sexual desire can affect the whole life quality of women and their partner as well.

There is no such thing as female Viagra as of now, and pharmaceutical companies are researching in this direction. However, researchers claim that psychotherapy has the solution to this syndrome as well.

A study was done to test the authenticity of this claim in which 68 women were given four therapy sessions, each of 90 minutes. The sessions include mindfulness-based therapy along with meditation, cognitive therapy and education.

Another 49 women were kept in the delayed treatment control group. The results of the mindfulness group were better than the delayed treatment group. The women of the mindfulness group had improvements in sexual desires, lubrication and sexual satisfaction.

So, if you are also experiencing any of these syndromes, then book online psychologist instead of wasting your time in medications. Try it out, and you won’t regret!
